In May of 2015, the Universidad del Valle will be hosting the IX ATEC INTERNATIONAL FORUM and The PACIFIC ASIA THEATRE SCHOOL FESTIVAL. It was elected host in 2014, after becoming a member of the Asian Theater Education Center (ATEC), an organization of the most prestigious theater education institutions in Asia, Oceania and America. Among member schools are the Central Academy of Drama in China, Nihon University in Japan, Chung-ang University in Korea, and many others. Each year in May, the ATEC holds its INTERNATIONAL FORUM. In 2012, the Department of Performing Arts at the Universidad del Valle was accepted as a partner institution, and the following year it presented its proposal to host the Forum.

In May 2014, our university was chosen as host and organizer of the following events:

IX ATEC Internacional Forum, May 20-21, 2015

This academic gathering will have as theme “Games-Playing in Theatre Pedagogy,” where participants from the 17 ATEC member schools will give conferences or present demonstrations on different ways of using theatre games as a training tool, from their theatre school or national tradition. The conferences and demonstrations will occur at the Melendez campus of the Universidad del Valle, and will be broadcast in live streaming, via the university’s website:


The Pacific Asia Theatre School Festival, 19 to 22 of May 2015

Cali will host for the first time the Pacific Asia Theatre Schools Festival, which will include the participation of ATEC member schools. Additional guests will be representatives from the Theater School Network of Colombia. It will be the first time that this festival will be held outside of Asia and on this side of the Pacific. Cali residents and visitors will see shows from China, Japan and Korea, among others, along with a number of Colombian productions. These productions will be performed at the Enrique Buenaventura Municipal Theater of Cali, the Universidad del Valle and in various venues throughout the city.

The inauguration will involve the participation of the most important cultural performers of the region and promote the expressive richness of the Colombian Pacific to the participatin delegations.

Ways of participating:

   Registration of teachers and guests who are not members of ATEC will cost $ 300 (US). Students who have pre-registered will be able to participate for free.

> Asia-Pacific Asia Theatre School Festival in 2015.

   The school applicants must submit a dossier to the Organizing Committee with a video of the work by December 15, 2014. The organization shall bear accommodation and internal transport costs of up to 6 members of each production.
